Frequently Asked Questions

  • What age are Teen Volunteers?

You must be 12-18 years old to be a Teen Volunteer.

  • What kind of work do Teen Volunteers do?

Teen Volunteers help run the Summer Reading Program by registering participants, awarding prizes, and assisting at events. During the school year, T.V.s serve as an Advisory Board for the Teen Librarian. They develop the Summer Reading theme for teens, and help develop other programs and events.

  • How do I become a Teen Volunteer?

Pick up a Teen Volunteer form at the Youth Services desk, and attend the monthly Teen Volunteer meetings at the Library! For the date of the next meeting, check out our online events calendar.

  • When do I volunteer?

Your schedule for volunteering is up to YOU! A master schedule is in our Teen Volunteers notebook, located at the Youth Services desk. You can sign up for times you are available and events that interest you!

  • What if I only want to volunteer during the summer?

Teens interested in volunteering during the summer break from school can help us run our Summer Reading Program! For more information, join us for one of our Teen Volunteer Orientations.

  • I was assigned to do volunteering, and I need to do it right now! Is that possible?

Ongoing volunteers are generally given the first priority for volunteering. For assigned volunteering, contact the Teen Librarian with at least a week’s notice: teens@westervillelibrary.org.

Um, volunteers don’t get paid. That’s why they call it volunteering.

Yes, you can get paid to work at the library, but not as a volunteer. T.V.s only help out at the SRP desk, but, to make money, you have to become a page. (I don’t know where you get an application for that)

You also get to help out with things such as luncheons and other activities for kids in the library.

Amy, you can get a paying job as a page (shelver) at the library at age 14. Applications are available at the front desk. Until then, you can volunteer (but volunteers don’t get paid). Hope this helps!
