Ms. Yingling left a comment on our post “Judge a book by its cover,” pointing out this really cool site: Jacket Whys.

Jacket Whys is a blog about Children’s and YA book covers, written by a librarian who is a former graphic designer. Take a look! What do you think about some of the patterns this blogger sees in book cover design?

Kissing?

Pockets?

Fantasy = circles?

Write or Die!

Guest blogger Odderkid shares the following post:

Have you ever wondered what the most evil writing tool ever invented is?

Well, I’ve found it.

http://lab.drwicked.com/writeordie.html

Great for NaNoWriMo, deadlines, or whatever rocks your socks. Give it a word goal, how long you want the program to run for, and start typing. If you write consistently, you’re perfectly fine. But if you stop for a certain amount of seconds, one of three things will happen after an alert of the background turning red (depending on what function you’ve set it to).

There’s Gentle Mode, where after you stop writing a box will come up to remind you to keep writing.

Normal Mode, where an annoying sound will blast from your computer every time you stop writing.

And of course Kamikaze Mode, where your work eventually begins to delete itself.

So, if YOU ever have a deadline or just want to rip out some hair, go to Write Or Die!!!

….Thanks for the tip, Odderkid! Can’t wait to try this…and I’m a little afraid…

This post is so book.

If you use predictive text messaging, you’ll get a kick out of this story from The Times Online:

Jeffrey Stark from London writes: “A colleague recently noticed that her teenage son and his friends were using the word ‘book’ as a term of approval, as in ‘that T-shirt is really book’. She wondered why. It transpires that if you text the word ‘cool’, predictive texting turns it into ‘book’. Being lazy teenagers they would rather change the meaning of the word than hit the options button.”

Does your predictive texting change “cool” to “book”? Either way…this is a great development for fans of books and libraries! ;)

What’s the POA, you ask? It’s the Protection of Animals web site, and it was started by animal<3, a local Westerville teen and Library Teen Volunteer.

animal<3 says,

Hi! Here is a great website my friend and I made discussing animal rights. You can join our group by going to the Contact Us page. We will gladly accept!

Thanks for the tip, animal<3! Visit the site today!

TGI…Tuesday…Minute Mystery!

Whoops, I messed up my usual schedule and haven’t been blogging as much last month — so here I offer you, along with my apologies, a special Tuesday edition of TGIF Minute Mysteries.

First, the answer to our previous mystery: The man has hiccups; the bartender scares them away by pulling a gun. No one quite guessed it…although I liked the theory that it was a water gun!

And today’s mystery: A man is holding a box. Though he cannot see into it, he knows exactly what’s inside. How is this possible? Leave comments with your theories!

Joke of the day

Brace yourselves…this is a cheesy one:

Q: Why did the librarian slip and fall on the library floor?

A: Because she (or he!) was in the non-friction section!
