texting

So, I noticed a while ago that Meijer (the grocery store) has a program that lets you sign up to get text message alerts, including alerts about rising gas prices.

I know that not everyone reading this drives or buys gas, but what do you think of this? Would you sign up to get texts from a company, or do you prefer texting as a way to talk to friends?

Even more interesting…what if the LIBRARY texted you?! You could find out when that book or movie you reserved comes in…or you could text a librarian with a homework question. It may be possible soon…tell me what you think!!

Graphic novel and comics fans, this post’s for you! YALSA (that’s the Young Adult Library Services Association) has started a new yearly list of Great Graphic Novels for Teens. Their lists are a great place to check when you’re looking for a good recommendation.

Two of my recent favorites made it onto the 2008 Top Ten list: The Arrival and The Wall!

The best part is, YOU can nominate your favorites for 2009 and get your opinion out there!

Pencil Art – not like you’d expect!!

Seethe (pencil art)

If you haven’t seen Jennifer Maestre’s pencil art, take a look! It’s definitely NOT “drawing with pencils”! These are the kind of sculptures I want to touch and avoid at the same time.

What do you think? Have you seen any other cool art made from something ordinary (maybe gummi bears)?

Have you heard that Yen Press is going publish a manga version of James Patterson’s popular Maximum Ride series?

“I am completely over the moon that Max’s story will be told in manga editions,” said Patterson. “I can’t imagine a more visual tale than this one. Truly, this is Max taken to the max.”

Thanks to Jordan for the heads-up!

Would you read a manga version of Max, or are you faithful to the original? The fourth book, The Final Warning, comes out on March 17! Reserve your copy today!

Scholastic, the U.S. publisher of the Harry Potter series, has announced a new series that it hopes will be just as popular.

The 39 Clues will include 10 books, 350 collectible cards, and an online game with prizes. The first book, Maze of Bones, will be written by Rick Riordan (author of the Percy Jackson series!). You can reserve your library copy right now!

Check out www.the39clues.com for a cool promotional video on how it all ties together. I’m verrrrry curious!

Thanks to Odderkid for the info! :)
