In case you are crying into your pillow over being off school on Monday for Martin Luther King Day, fear not! The Library will be open regular hours, which means we are here for you from 9 am-9 pm. We’re even having a Yu Gi Oh tournament from 2-5, so stop on by for snacks and duels!
And of course, see what’s available on the great Dr. King himself.

For those of you who so enjoyed the marshmallowy goodness of Peeps: A Candy-Coated Tale, I thought I’d let you know that there’s a sequel!
Get your library cards out and reserve Peeps Ahoy: A Candy-Coated Adventure on the High Seas. I’m already imagining a tragic photo involving a Peep who dissolves in the ocean…

Today is a day that readers and librarians wait for all year — the 2008 award winners were announced by the American Library Association! These are books you won’t want to miss!
The Printz Award is given for excellence in young adult literature, and this year’s winner is The White Darkness by Geraldine McCaughrean. The Printz Honor books (runners-up) are Dreamquake, One Whole and Perfect Day, Repossessed, and Your Own, Sylvia.
I’m also super-excited that this year’s Caldecott winner for best picture book is The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick, one of my favorite books of all time! If you haven’t seen this unusual novel in words and pictures, definitely check it out!
The Newbery Award was won by Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! by Laura Amy Schlitz.

Today is the birthday of J.R.R. Tolkien, most famous for his series The Lord of the Rings.
Do you have a favorite book of his? Any further reading to recommend to fans of Middle-Earth?
The Library has over 90 books by him, as well as Peter Jackson’s LOTR movie adaptations. You know, some of us are fans of the actors…
