Mrs McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash by Sarah Weeks

Not many of us hang our wash on a line like Mrs. McNosh, but even fewer of us hang up everything around the house like Mrs. McNosh! Bats and newspapers and even the phone, Mrs. McNosh is on a spree. This silly rhyming book is a perennial favorite.

Wishy Washy Washerwoman
Way down in the valley where nobody goes
There’s a wishy washy washer woman washin’ her clothes
She goes (wash motions)
She goes (wash motions)
She goes (wash motions)
She goes (wash motions)
That’s how the wishy washy washer woman washes her clothes

Way down in the valley where nobody goes
There’s a wishy washy washer woman dryin’ her clothes
She goes (drying motions)
She goes (drying motions)
She goes (drying motions)
She goes (drying motions)
That’s how the wishy washy washer woman dries her clothes

Way down in the valley where nobody goes
There’s a wishy washy washer woman foldin’ her clothes
She goes (folding motions)
She goes (folding motions)
She goes (folding motions)
She goes (folding motions)
That’s how the wishy washy washer woman folds her clothes

…pickin’ her nose…
…eatin’ oreos…
…paintin’ her toes…
…puttin’ on pantyhose…
…sayin’ goodbye…

Play like Tarzan!

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Recite a Gorilla poem.

I am big, dark and hairy and the thing that I like to do best –
Is to look all ferocious and scary, while pounding my giant big chest!
What am I?

Tell a Gorilla joke.

Knock, knock. / Gorilla / Gorilla me a hamburger, I’m hungry!
Knock, knock. / Police / Police stop telling me knock-knock jokes!

Do the Tarzan’s Thymus Tap breathing exercise:  (p. 36)

Start in mountain and jump feet apart.
Make two fists, take a deep breath in and pound your chest.
Howl, yowl & yodel.
Repeat.

Do the Untying the Knots warm-up exercise.  (p. 44)

Squeeze your hands into fists, and your feet up tight.
Scrunch up your neck, back and shoulders.
Now loosen up each part, one at a time.
Then, shake your whole body like jelly!
Shake all over to get nicely and loose and jiggly.
Now, reach down to the floor in a forward bend.
Take a deep breath in, then blow all your air back out.
Take another deep breath in and sway side to side while blowing all your air back out.

Sing Just Like the Monkeys ♫ from Amazing Adventures of Kid Astro by Ralph Covert.

Reserve It!

Play the following Gorilla games.

What kind of ways do gorillas move? (jump, scratch, eat bugs, pound chest, etc.)
Play big gorilla, little gorilla mirror game.
Find a partner, one of you is the big gorilla and the other is the little gorilla.
If you are the little gorilla, copy everything the big gorilla does.  Switch roles and repeat.

Then join us next time for Yoga Tales! Check our Events calendar for upcoming sessions.
