A new school year has begun and the first meeting of ‘Tween ARC was August 17th. It has been a long summer, so we played a game to help us get to know each other. Here are some of the responses from the ARC-ers who were there:
Chessmaster’s favorite book is:
So it won’t surprise you to learn that his favorite series is the Kane Chronicles:
Chessmaster says he enjoys this modern day fantasy that includes Egyptian mythology and magic. He is also reading The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien
He confides that he’d like to be Gandalf!
If he were to make a movie from a book, it would be Danger along the Ohio by Patricia Willis.
Chessmaster has also read Darth Paper strikes back! by Tom Angleberger more than once!
PiE!peep101 (apologies if I got your alias wrong PiE!) Admits to loving Katie and the Cupcake Cure by Coco Simon and 11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass.
She also thinks that 11 Birthdays would make a great movie. Her favorite series is The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins so it isn’t a surprise to learn that if she could be any character in a book, she’d be Katniss Everdeen.
PiE!peep101 has read everything written by J.K. Rowling, will NEVER read a Star Wars book and loved hearing The Willoughbys by Lois Lowry so much, she has read it more than once!
‘Tween ARC-er Pineapple, also loves The Willoughbys and would love to see it hit the silver screen. She will never read the ABC’s (probably because she already knows them!) and her favorite series is Harry Potter. Her favorite book is Harry Potter and the half-blood prince by J.K. Rowling. She loves this series so much, she’d like to be Ron Weasley !
It won’t surprise you to know that she’s read the whole series more than once.
Al likes all books but her favorite book is Sheep by Valerie Hobbs. It is also her choice for a book that would make a great movie, and she has read it more than once.
Al also loves Lauren Myracle’s books and she’s read them all! Here’s the latest one:
ARC-er Lay’s favorite book is Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton
and she’ll NEVER read Hunger Games, but neither will NatureLover7%206=13! NatureLover’s favorite book (which she has read more than once) is Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli.
One book she would not recommend: Storm Makers by Jennifer Smith. She thinks Earthling by Mark Fearing would make a great movie and she has read everything written by R.L. Stine.
If NatureLover had to dress-up as a character, she’d be Stargirl!
Billy Bob loves the Percy Jackson series and his favorite book is The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.
He and Pineapple do not see eye to eye on the Harry Potter series–his least favorite book is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and he’ll never read The Fellowship of the Ring 2 (do you mean The Two Towers, Billy Bob?).
Bacon eater has the review of the month (so far). He reviewed Hiss-s-s-s! By Eric Kimmel.
He read this book before it was published and chose it because it was about snakes (cause, he likes snakes!). He says he read it in record time, finished it because “it was pretty good” and liked the character of Sam cat “because he has really good plans”. Bacon eater though the book got off to a good start but lagged in the middle. He says “It was somewhat predictable, but over all good.”
That does it for now! ‘Tween ARC meets the third Thursday of the month in the Activity Center at 4 pm. If you love to read and are a 4th or 5th grader, we’d love to have you! Our next meeting is September 20th.
The book of the month is:
The Last Dogs: the vanishing by Christopher Holt
You may pick up your own copy as an ARC member. Ask at the Youth Help desk for details!
